MATTHEWS – The Matthews Woman’s Club Service League continued its tradition this season of providing a series of Victorian Christmas teas.
For more than 27 years, the league has collaborated with the Matthews Historical Foundation to host teas in the historic Nancy Reid House in downtown.
Victorian carolers, provided by Musical Heirs, were on the porch greeting guests as they approached the Reid House. The décor was holiday festive with each room sparkling with its own personality.
Harpists entertained as guests enjoyed sweet and savory treats, and of course, sipped tea.
Matthews Woman’s Club Service League members volunteered many hours decorating the Reid House. Food preparation began in October for the seven teas – all made fresh by members.
Mayor Jim Taylor with his wife, Joslyn, and his mother, Kathleen, continued their holiday tradition as guests of the tea. It’s a tradition for many families who come back year after year.
Matthews Victorian Christmas Tea is the signature fundraising event for the Matthews Woman’s Club Service League. A portion of the proceeds go toward grant monies supporting area nonprofits.
