I'm STRONGLY in favor of commercial development but someone seriously needs to study the traffic at Christmas time in and around Carolina Place Mall. This is what we're going to get without multiple lanes being added to I-485 and without major expansion to all local roads within a few miles of the new mall site (once the mall exit gets log jammed, commuters are going to be dumping off like crazy onto the side roads looking for alternative escape routes). Seriously, where is the money going to come from to do this development without negatively impacting the quality of life for those living in the surrounding neighborhoods and possibly even home values.

This is totally disgusting! After having two killer dogs taken away once, then to get two more and kill again Michael Roberts should be made an example of by whatever means necessary!
Shame on the Commissioners for not taking such cruelty and barbarism, such apathy for the property and lives of others and their pets, seriously. Will it take a child before you act?!
There is no excuse for such cruelty in any form! I hope Mr. Williamson finds an attorney who will sue Roberts and the Commissioners for negligence and emotional anguish. Maybe that will get their attention.

Comment on Versage focuses on foreclosures by Richard Slater

Thank you for publishing this article. As the RecoverHoaDues.com representative who handles the Versage account, allow me to clarify some of the statements in this exceptional article.

We have prevented excessive legal fees and foreclosure for 48 families in Versage in the last 4 months (as opposed to the 70 reported).

We are not actually an online payment system, but rather are the ‘ounce of prevention’ for families with late dues, in that we eliminate the legal fees that make it hard for families to catch up on their late dues.

Some homeowners understandably have difficulty paying bills. However, HOA boards routinely see other residents take vacations or buy luxuries while ignoring their HOA dues; placing an unfair burden on their neighbors.

The $20 alternative Versage is employing uses potential credit reporting instead of legal action to motivate residents with the ability to pay who are unwilling. This process restores communication between homeowners and their Board, allowing each resident’s situation to be given individual attention.

Homeowners who are able to work out arrangements do so, and pay their HOA directly. Since October, Versage has prevented 49.7% of the foreclosures on their current delinquencies. RecoverHoaDues.com is eliminating legal fees and foreclosure for 40.2% of families with delinquent HOA dues in several states. To date, we have prevented legal fees and foreclosure for a total 781 families, in 241 residential communities, across 14 states.

The issue Versage board member Shelton Lee has had (as he put it) is that, “Property management companies tried to talk us out of using credit reporting." “We went through four property management firms and two attorneys in six months, because they didn’t want to use it. They make their money filing liens and foreclosing, and seemed more interested in protecting their profits than helping our homeowners. They didn’t care about the burden they were putting on our homeowners’ backs.”

This softer approach to delinquencies is endorsed by the National Homeowners Advocate Group, (not the National Homeowners Association Group).

The RecoverHoaDues.com process uses a phone and letter campaign, skip tracing, and an attorney written letter to communicate to residents the importance of working with their HOA, so as to avoid credit reporting. Reporting is at the discretion of the HOA’s Board, and is done in compliance with all Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act regulations.

Thank you for allowing me to properly address and clarify these few simple points.

Kind regards,
Richard Slater

The Mint Hill Commissioners voted last to hold a public hearing on October 11, 2012 at 7:00PM to review the noise ordinance..

A well crafted noise ordinance is not about stopping family fun, rather it helps to manage aberrant behavior. A well crafted noise ordinance fines bad neighbors and holds them accountable when repeatedly disturbing the peace.

A well crafted noise ordinance will enable our police department to perform a service to the community within set guidelines - rather than not answering a call at all until after 10:00PM..
