Matthew Kelly, a Spanish teacher at Independence High School, was one of eight Charlotte-Mecklenburg teachers selected for the Yale National Initiative, a summer seminar series designed to strengthen teaching in public schools.
Kelly will attend a seminar titled “The Big Easy: Literary New Orleans and Intangible Heritage,” and he will build a curriculum unit tentatively called “Cambio de ubicación: Change of Address.”
The initiative selected 84 teachers from 11 states to attend. The participants will write a curriculum unit to teach their students what they learn in the seminars, which they will share with teachers in their school districts and elsewhere through the institute’s website.
