Local teen organization holds arts competition

Playing for Others, a leadership program for teenagers who are passionate about the arts, will host “Livin’ in Music,” a songwriting competition and art show, May 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Students between the ages of 13 and18 submitted visual arts pieces, and winners will be announced at the event.

Students also submitted original songs, and the ten finalists will perform their entries at 8 p.m. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges and audience votes.

The students will also unveil a Music Sound Garden they have created for students at Metro School, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school serving severely disabled children.  The garden is a series of kinesthetic sculptures that have musical elements and interesting colors, shapes and textures for the students to explore.

The Friday event will be held at Spirit Square, 345 N. College St. in Charlotte, and tickets are on sale for $10.
