Matthews resident Ness Gray won free gas for a year – a prize equivalent to $2,600 – this week from convenience store chain The Pantry, Kangaroo Express and Marathon.
Gray accepted his prize Monday, Jan. 9, at the Kangaroo Express, 100 E. John St. in Matthews. He’s vowed to split the prize with his son, Ness Gray Jr., who also lives in Matthews. Winners of free gas for a year were selected every Friday through Dec. 30. Participants entered to win by filling up with eight or more gallons of Marathon fuel at participating Kangaroo Express Marathon locations near Charlotte, Birmingham, Ala., Greenville, S.C., and Spartanburg, S.C., according to a news release.
“I’m really hyped. This is the best news I’ve had all year,” Ness Gray said. “I’ve never really won anything before and to win free gas like this is huge. It’s funny because my son and I were at the gas station when we entered together. We each promised we’d split the prize with the other if one of us won.”
