Harris Teeter opens in Mint Hill Aug. 22

Harris Teeter will open its new Mint Hill store Aug. 22, company spokeswoman Catherine Reuhl said.

The Matthews-based company is planning an 8 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony at the former Lowes Foods store at 7036 Brighton Park Drive in the Mint Hill Pavilion. The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, Reuhl said. The company also will mark the opening of a new location at 15080-P Idelwild Road in Stallings Aug. 22.

Harris Teeter and Lowes announced a purchase and sale agreement in June where Harris Teeter would acquire 10 Lowes Foods store locations in the central Carolinas and Lowes would gain six Harris Teeter store locations in western North Carolina.

The Mint Hill Lowes store employed 89 people and all employees from both companies would have the choice to transfer to another location or apply for available positions with the new company, officials said.

In addition to Mint Hill and Stallings, Harris Teeter aquired locations in Wesley Chapel, Davidson, Cornelius, Huntersville, Fort Mill and three stores in Charlotte.

The Harris Teeter stores that Lowes Foods acquired include two in Gastonia and one each in Asheville, Hickory, Morganton and Shelby. In addition to the six Harris Teeter stores, Harris Teeter agreed to pay Lowes Foods $26.5 million and the transaction was complete last month, according to a news release.
