Doris Jean Kirkley Powell
Doris Jean Kirkley Powell, a resident of Plantation Estates Matthews, passed away Oct. 7, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born March 10, 1930, in Jefferson, S.C. Before moving to Plantation Estates, Doris and her husband, Ralph, owned and operated several convenience stores in Monroe.
Doris was also a community volunteer. Over the years, she served on several committees, including Meals on Wheels. She volunteered at the local Methodist church visitation for the shut-ins and the Matthews Help Center. She also felt honored to have been elected president of the Pilot Club of Monroe.
Doris was loved and will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph G. Powell.
She is survived by her son, Danny Powell and wife Jackie; daughter, Martha Powell Tadrzak and husband Jerry; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Burgess; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the Cancer Society. Family is in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel.
