MATTHEWS – Matthews Playhouse of the Performing Arts is holding a Halloween-themed spooky trail on the evenings of Oct. 26 to 30.
The trail is going to be composed of decorations used in previous Matthews Playhouse productions, as well as some recently built ones. These include a life-sized jack-in-the-box and carnival booths. Natural objects such as hay and grass will also be used.
There will be food trucks every night accompanying the festivities featuring local cuisine. This will give some the opportunity to try foods they did not know were available in the area.
The process of creating the decorations started in September and required the help of a carpenter to help make the trail as spooky as possible. Planning for the event began early to consistently meet deadlines for getting people on the trail and to adjust for any bumps during the building process.
Cassie Prodan, the production manager for Matthews Playhouse, is serving as the entertainment coordinator for the trail. She has outdoor theater experience, so she was welcomed onto the team. Along with her are about 60 costumed actor volunteers who will attempt to make the event entertaining.
Trail proceeds will contribute to smooth operations throughout the rest of the Matthews Playhouse season. Costumes, props and stage designs are just a few of the things that will benefit with the money. Some of the proceeds will go toward a scholarship fund for students belonging to Title I schools. These schools, which serve larger percentages of low-income families, have students who would most likely not have an opportunity to see Matthews Playhouse events without the fund.
Prodan said she hopes the event will help with awareness of the Matthews Playhouse, as well as the chance to interact with others in the community.

The trail will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26 to 30. It costs $10 for adults and $7 for children. There will be a “not-so-spooky” period from 6 to 7 p.m., which will be geared toward younger children and include games and activities in the nearby parking lot.
