BeachFest brings coast to Matthews

MATTHEWS – The Matthews Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resource Department celebrates the official start to summer with the 11th annual BeachFest Matthews.

The festival takes place 6 to 10 p.m. May 10 and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. May 11 at Stumptown Park, 120 S. Trade St. Admission to the festival is free.

Hip Pocket (6:30 to 8 p.m.) and Chairmen of the Board (8:30 to 10 p.m.) will perform May 10. Musical acts for May 11 include Chuck Carland (10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), The Randy Clay Band (2:30 to 4 p.m.), The Extraordinaires (4:30 to 6 p.m.), The Entertainers (6:30 to 8 p.m.), and Blackwater Rhythm & Blues (8:30 to 10 p.m.).

Families can enjoy carnival rides, an inflatable bounce village, and an arts and crafts boardwalk. Have lunch or dinner at Food Truck Alley, see interactive exhibits on Sponsor Row, and get down on the Novant Main Stage dance floor.

Trade Street will close between John and McDowell streets at 9 a.m. Friday to accommodate pedestrians and vendors. The closure will move to Main Street at 5pm., until the event ends Saturday evening.
