CMS amends Municipal Concerns Act of 2018

October 27, 2019 by admin Leave a Comment

CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education voted to add Cornelius to the list of towns with prioritized capital projects for future spending.

The board created the prioritized list in 2018 as part of the Municipal Concerns Act, after the N.C. General Assembly passed a session law allowing specified towns in Mecklenburg to create their municipal charter schools.

\Cornelius was one of the towns but has worked with the board in recent months to make clear that it does not intend to operate a municipal charter school, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

“We are very pleased to have renewed our partnership with the town of Cornelius and improved our communications with the town and its citizens,” said Mary McCray, board chairperson. “We look forward to similar success with all the towns in Mecklenburg County.”

The act directs the superintendent of CMS “to prioritize all future capital funding to projects that are located within the municipal limits of Charlotte, Davidson and Pineville.” Cornelius has now been added to the list.
