MATTHEWS – The Matthews Police Department will have an increased presence at all Matthews schools, including Butler High School, following the Oct. 29 shooting. Students are returning to Butler today for the first time since the shooting.
“It is important for Butler parents, students and staff to know that we are using all available means to ensure their safety,” Matthews Police Chief Clark Pennington said. “We also want the Butler community to know we are grieving with you and we will do our part to ensure a smooth transition back into school and allow you to continue with the healing process.”
Pennington will be at Butler greeting students and staff as they return.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools reported that mid-term exams have been rescheduled and brief assemblies have been planned to offer resources to students and staff. Counselors will also be available.
