MATTHEWS – A patrol officer with the Matthews Police Department attempted to perform a traffic stop at 11:12 p.m. Nov. 19 on East John Street near Charles Buckley Way, but the driver sped away.
Police said the driver drove recklessly before losing control and crashing into brush at the end of Selma Burke Lane. The male driver then jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the woods while two female passengers remained inside, police said.
The Matthews Police K-9 Unit located the driver in the woods.
Terry Lee Taylor, 55, of Matthews, was arrested on charges of felony flee to elude, resist a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
One of the female passengers was found to have four outstanding arrest warrants as well as have illegal narcotics, police said.
Dana Thompson Luther, 35, of Pineville, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of heroin. She had outstanding warrants for arrest for driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, possession of drug paraphernalia and receive stolen goods/property, according to police.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash and no injuries reported.
