Andrew Stark: People on the outside will say Charlotte Christian will be down after all that they lost. We know that’s a mistake, but why will you guys be able to bounce back so quickly?
JB Awolowo: Yes sir, they may but we have a lot of really good players, and we will prove them wrong.
AS: You did everything last season including punting some. Does your role change any this season?
JA: I don’t think so. Last year, I was sort of a role player but was still able to be a big factor. This year, I’m going to have to do a lot better than last year. I have to run the ball, catch the ball, maybe throw it, play linebacker and at safety. I have to do all three phases and make a big impact.
AS: You’ve got a lot on your plate. How are you able to juggle all of those roles?
JA: It’s a good opportunity in my opinion because it’s going to teach me how to be a leader. It’s not hard, but I have to be vocal, I have to work and I have to show them how to work because we have a young group. Last year, the seniors did a great job, so now it’s our turn to teach them.
AS: What is the key to making this another successful season?
JA: It’s just listening to coaches. Coach Estep always says he’s giving us the gameplan, we just have to go out and execute it. We have to pay attention to details like stepping with the correct foot, running the right plays and the right routes. That’s all it is.
AS: You guys have such a rich tradition of winning. How is this program able to keep that intact year after year?
JA: The key is just playing hard. There’s nothing to it. We changed the offense once and it worked so we have to play fast and play physical and that’s all that it is.
