Inside the Huddle
Coach Weslee Ward takes over the Panthers after serving as an assistant for the past three seasons. He’ll inherit a team that lost 16 seniors, including the majority of the starters from last year’s co-conference championship team that struggled early before coming on late in the season.
Ward sees the loss of those seniors as a chance to grow some in-house talent and continue right where they left off last season.
New quarterback Holland Stallings started the past two seasons on JV and is ready to roll. He’ll have a consistent receiving corps that includes Rece Hider, soccer convert Josh Colston and speedy junior Jake Snapp.
Charles Charnock is a three-year starter at tackle and is joined up front by Adam Boguski and big Jalen Brooks.
Snapp headlines a quick secondary that also features playmakers Darrin Rice, Mason Bryant and Dewayne Gissendanner. Linebackers Sam Decker and John Balas are both just sophomores and the D-line, led by Mason Adkins, transfer Chris Gates and Jack Brown, is a physical bunch.
Eddie Czaplicki is one of the region’s top kickers who will also handle punting and kickoff duties. Snapp is a very dangerous return man and will get many chances.
The Panthers could easily win the So. Meck 7, which has been a coaching carousel of late. They’re a little inexperienced overall, but the Panthers will only get better as the year goes on as the talented underclassmen learn on the job.
