CHARLOTTE – Independence High School’s Air Force JROTC won gold and silver awards from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools District JROTC Field Day.
The team competed in 16 events against the other 21 JROTC units in the district. Independence students placed in nine events with the women’s team finishing second overall in its division.
The unit placed in the following events:
• 800M Male: Magnus Lewsader, third place.
• 800M Female: Miyaka Grant, fifth place.
• Long Jump Female: Tyleah Hough, second place.
• Flex Arm Hang Female: Katherine Kafitz, second place.
• Pull Ups Male: Caleb Cineus, fifth place.
• 4×100 Females: Tyleah Hough, Miyaka Grant, Katerine Kafitz, Helena Hartley, sixth place.
• Three-Legged Race Males: Holden Hartley, Nathaniel Kinney, Nathaniel Head, Basit Ormal, first place (21.63 sec).
• Simple Relay Females: Tyleah Hough, Anali Salinas-Cruz, Arel Nunez, Helena Hartley, Kafitz, Nancy Perez, fifth place.
• Tug-of-war Females: Jazmine Vazquez, Katherine Kafitz, Tyleah Hough, Say La, Cing Kim, Arel Nunez-Jimenez, Helena Hartley, Emoni McMillian, Mikayla Grant, Nancy Perez, third place.
