MATTHEWS – Only one of the eight first-round matches in the Downtown Matthews region of 2024 Munch Madness resulted in an upset.
No. 13 El Valle Mexican Restaurant defeated No. 4 Kristopher’s Sports Bar to advance to the Thirsty 32.
Second-round matches are as follows:
• No. 1 The Exchange Pizza Depot, which serves up Neapolitan-style pizzas at downtown drinking spots, takes on No. 8 Stacks Kitchen, a family-owned restaurant known for its all-day breakfast menu.
• No. 2 The Loyalist Market, a place that can cultivate satisfying cheese or charcuterie boards, challenges No. 7 Grace O'Malley's Irish Public House, a concept named after Ireland's pirate queen that steals hearts with items like Maureen's Shepherds Pie and The Gaelic Chicken.
• No. 3 Santé, which set the standard for fine dining in downtown Matthews more than 20 years ago with its French cuisine, squares off against No. 6 Mac’s Speed Shop,which revs up diners with its blend of barbecue, beer and motorcycle theme.
• No. 5 Jekyll and Hyde Taphouse Grill, which serves up American, English and Irish dishes in a fun environment, faces No. 13 El Valle Mexican Restaurant, which has been serving tacos, enchiladas and other favorites in the Matthews area for over 20 years.
