MATTHEWS – The Rotary Club of Matthews has recognized Ashley Liles as Officer of the Quarter.

Liles, who works in the K-9 Unit of the Matthews Police Department, was recognized for her quick thinking and actions while responding to the home of an armed person in distress. The person was locked in their bedroom and threatened to shoot anyone that came to the door.

As another officer began talking to the armed person to de-escalate the situation, Liles relayed information to backup officers. She provided detailed information and pictures of the layout of the home to maintain the safety of those responding.

Officers convinced the person to peacefully exit the room to be taken for evaluation and receive treatment.

“Officer Liles' strategic thinking during this stressful situation to keep her fellow officers safe was remarkable and we thank her for her excellent service to MPD and the Matthews community,” according to the Rotary Club of Matthews.
