MATTHEWS – Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity is focusing on neighborhood preservation and restoration through its second Rock the Block event April 19 in Mint Hill.

This year’s event is in partnership with the Town of Mint Hill and in collaboration with the Canopy Housing Foundation as part of its annual Realtors Care Day, which happens during National Fair Housing Month.

The home repair project assists homeowners in need. Around 20 volunteers are expected to participate, offering their time and skills toward minor exterior repairs, landscaping and general beautification efforts.

“Through Rock the Block, we not only uplift neighborhoods but also unite our community in the shared goal of ensuring safe and decent homes for all,” said Natisha Rivera-Patrick, president and CEO of Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity. “Our combined efforts with Canopy Housing Foundation and the Town of Mint Hill for this event highlight our commitment to not just build homes but also sustain the communities around them."

During last year’s event, 40 volunteers from various organizations, including Wells Fargo and TreesMatthews, joined to service homes and communal spaces in the Rainbow Ridge neighborhood.

Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity aims to eliminate substandard housing, create affordable homeownership opportunities and empower families to build brighter futures. The nonprofit does this through home construction, critical repairs and community preservation efforts.
